Abstract:
Audit logs from electronic health records (EHRs) hold untapped potential for understanding user behavior, system interactions, and workflow challenges in healthcare. This talk explores how audit logs can be harnessed to improve usability and optimize clinician workflows, drawing from recent studies on identifying bottlenecks, reducing cognitive load, and enhancing user experience. By leveraging audit log analytics, we can move beyond static usability evaluations to create adaptive systems that meet the dynamic needs of healthcare providers. This presentation will share insights, methodologies, and findings from research, offering a roadmap for actionable improvements in EHR design and evaluation.

On behalf of the Center for Accelerating Practices to End Suicide (CAPES), the Person-Centered Design Unit (PDU) would like to invite you to a virtual presentation. Come join us to hear Dr. Saif Khairat discuss more generalizable knowledge about EPIC log data and what might be an informative strategy to analyze specific metrics over time by clinicians.
