Do you qualify? You may qualify for the study if you are a reasonably healthy, non-smoker between the ages of 30-40 or 70-80 years that does not exercise heavily. You must be willing to undergo fatiguing tests on a treadmill and exercise machine as well as measurements of thigh muscle function and mobility.
What will you be asked to do? You will be asked to come to the laboratory for three or four study visits, depending on whether you agree to an optional fourth visit. During the study, you will complete paperwork and questionnaires, perform mobility and strength assessments, perform muscle contractions while having an MRI of your thigh muscle, and walk on a treadmill for 30 minutes.
For your participation, you will receive information about muscle composition and strength. You will be compensated up to $220.
To determine your eligibility to participate in this research study, we would like you to complete a brief screening questionnaire. It should take you no more than 5 minutes to complete. If you are determined to be ineligible to participate, your completed questionnaire will be destroyed. If you are determined to be eligible to participate, the completed questionnaire will become part of the study materials, and we will protect your information as confidential and safeguard it from unauthorized disclosure. Only research personnel will have access to the information contained in your screening questionnaire.
If the screening questionnaire indicates that you are meet our initial eligibility criteria, we may schedule a phone call to complete a telephone screening to determine your final elibigility.
